My practice has evolved to include a variety of media. I work with natural inks, watercolours and oils; often combining these with drawn elements, print and collage. Taking a process-led approach through open-ended drawing and painting, my own experience and understanding of nature sustains an individualistic, painterly language. Visualising formal content for abstract work, I allow elements to take their time and rely on my mind’s eye as a guide, unaware of the outcome. Studio experimentation on a range of surfaces generates a family of diverse but connected artworks. This ‘what if?’ process embraces a notion of becoming; something is caught, glimpses perhaps from a kind of reverie, half-dreamed.

Often coupling the familiar with the unfamiliar, the paintings I make can be read as a string of things, as a syntax of forms. Analogous to language;  the work occupies the space between word and image, voice and brush-mark, sentence and form.
