About

I trained in fine art painting at Maidstone Art College, the Royal Academy Schools and as a scholar at the British School at Rome. Most of my work is now made in mixed media and is rooted in natural history. I combine a process-led and an intuitive approach, exploring both the dynamic and intricate elements of landscape and natural form. Play, and a ‘what if’ approach is practiced through open-ended drawing, painting, assemblage and printmaking.
By working intuitively through different processes and responses, a minds-eye image takes shape and the subject of each work comes into focus. Drawn to both the dynamic and intricate elements of landscape and natural form, a distillation of elements informs the scenes, structures and details that develop. The works reveal themselves gradually; time invested in the making allows for discovery and change, leaving traces. Often there are suggestions of forms, fragments recorded on the move, perhaps receding or spinning; other subjects assume a relationship; closely bound together as a group or in mid-flight with a partner; all inhabiting their own particular landscape.

I am also an arts educator and really enjoy engaging people from all backgrounds and ages in experimental and open-ended drawing, painting, printing-making and construction; where the learner is at the heart of their learning experience. Please contact me for any workshop opportunities or needs you have - I am mobile and will respond to any space, indoors or outdoors.
